The Process

Often times we are asked, ”What does it take to prepare and spray on a bed liner?” Another common question, “How long will you need my truck or project to be coated?” These are both very good questions and hopefully this page will provide the answers and a better understanding.

In the beginning…..

The bed can come to us new or with substancial wear. It really doesn’t matter as the preparation work will likely be the same. The only exception would be if a degreasing agent were needed to clean the bed or there was repair work that was required. Below you will see a typical bed and tail gate that recently came for a liner.

The bed and tail gate edges have to be wiped with a laquer thinner to clean them. Masking and a special wire cutting tape is applied. We ensure that all of the edges are hand sanded with 60 grit sand paper for optimum adhesion as seen below. This process takes approximately one hour and is essential.

The flat surface areas are then prepared by using a 6 inch orbital sander with 40 grit sandpaper to scuff the surface for optimum adhesion as seen below. This process takes approximately one hour.

Once the flat surface areas are prepared with the orbital sander, a silica embedded nylon cup brush on an orbital polisher is used to scuff the contoured and difficult to reach surface areas as seen below. Once this process is complete, the surface is ready to be blown clean of dust and debris and ready to be sprayed. This process takes approximately one hour.

Once sprayed , the material is allowed to cure for approximately 5 minutes and the masking is removed. The vehicle washed prior to customer pick up or delivery.

The process start to finish has an aproximate turn around time of 4-5 hours depending on other variables such as accessory removal and re-install, bracket painting, etc.
